Sound Metrics
High-Definition Imaging Sonars for Zero-Visibility Underwater Operations
Overview
About Sound Metrics
Sound Metrics designs and manufactures the ARIS and DIDSON families of acoustic imaging sonars — delivering real-time, camera-like imagery in turbid, dark, and deep-water environments where optical cameras fail.
Built on next-generation DIDSON technology, ARIS sonars are purpose-built for ROV integration, diver operations, pipeline inspection, hull scanning, and defense applications.

Key Capabilities
Camera-Like Acoustic Imagery
ARIS sonars produce real-time, high-definition acoustic images that resemble optical camera footage — enabling operators to identify objects, assess conditions, and make decisions in zero-visibility environments where cameras cannot function.
Deep-Water Capability
The ARIS Voyager 3000 is rated to 4,000m depth with a titanium housing — enabling acoustic imaging in the deepest ROV operating environments where optical cameras alone are insufficient.
Dual-Frequency Operation
ARIS Explorer 1800 and DIDSON systems offer dual-frequency operation — switching between higher frequency (shorter range, higher resolution) and lower frequency (longer range, wider coverage) modes to optimize performance for the task at hand.
Applications
Where Sound Metrics Technology Is Used
ROV Inspection in Turbid Water
Acoustic imaging for ROV inspection operations in turbid, silty, or low-visibility water conditions where optical cameras cannot provide usable imagery.
Pipeline & Structure Inspection
High-definition acoustic imaging for pipeline inspection, structural assessment, and anode surveys in zero-visibility subsea environments.
Hull Inspection & Port Security
Acoustic imaging for hull scanning, underwater threat detection, and port security operations — providing clear imagery in harbor and port environments.
Defense & Underwater Security
ARIS Defender systems for naval and maritime security applications — detecting and identifying underwater threats in real time.
Ocean Science & Research
Acoustic imaging for marine biology, habitat assessment, and scientific research in environments where optical cameras are limited by visibility or depth.
